Weddings are about love, celebration, and bringing people together, but they also have an impact on the world around us. At Swanley Meadows, a countryside tipi wedding venue in Cheshire, we’re passionate about celebrating nature, protecting our little corner of the countryside, and helping couples do the same when they marry here.
We’re not a “perfectly sustainable” wedding venue - and it’s important to say that honestly. We use a generator. Weddings can be wasteful. Change takes time (and cash). But this business is being built with along-term view: to become more sustainable, more wildlife-friendly, and more thoughtful with every season.
Sustainability here isn’t a trend or a buzzword. It’s a journey, and we’re committed to making steady, meaningful progress as a working countryside venue in the North West.
Weddings are joyful, but they can involve:
We believe celebrations can still be beautiful, relaxed and full of personality, while being more mindful about how they affect the land that hosts them.
Swanley Meadows is surrounded by Cheshire fields, hedgerows and wildlife. This landscape is part of what makes weddings here feel so special, and it deserves care in return.
We can’t do everything at once, but we can make better choices step by step. Our focus is on realistic sustainability for a working wedding venue, not overnight transformation.
Right now at our Cheshire countryside wedding venue, that looks like:
🌿 Planting Trees & Hedgerows
For the weddings we host at Swanley Meadows, we plant trees and hedge plants across the land. This creates:
Over time, wedding days here quite literally help the landscape grow.
Not every corner needs to be neat and managed. Across Swanley Meadows we’re allowing areas to go wilder, encouraging:
These spaces support everything from bees to barn owls.
🦉 Wildlife Homes
Around the venue, we install and maintain:
If we’re welcoming people to celebrate here, wildlife should feel just as at home.
A big part of being a more sustainable wedding venue in Cheshire is working together with our couples. We gently encourage choices that reduce waste and support the local area, without taking away the joy or creativity of the day.
These are the kinds of mindful decisions we often talk through with couples at Swanley Meadows:
♻️ Reducing single-use items
🌼 Choosing local Cheshire suppliers
We champion local caterers, florists and creatives wherever possible. This helps:
🍽️ Thoughtful food choices
Family-style dining, realistic guest numbers, and careful planning with caterers can all reduce waste while keeping the experience warm and generous. Working with local caterers also helps lower food miles - some, like Eggington’s, even grow much of their own vegetables just down the road, which feels beautifully aligned with countryside weddings at Swanley Meadows.
Reusing, Upcycling & Thoughtful Modern Tools
Sustainability at Swanley Meadows isn’t just about the wedding day - it’s part of how we run the venue behind the scenes too.
We focus on:
We’re also mindful about how we work day to day. Sometimes I use AI tools to help shape my stream-of-consciousness ideas into something clearer and more useful, like blogs or planning resources, which helps reduce time, paper drafts and unnecessary back-and-forth. But sustainability isn’t about removing everything traditional either. Some things are simply more meaningful in print: a handwritten card, a keepsake note, something you hold onto. For us, it’s about balance and intention, not all-or-nothing rules.
Honest realities
We still rely on a generator. Large events use energy. There is waste involved in weddings. We’re learning and improving year by year.
For us, sustainability as a countryside tipi wedding venue in Cheshire means asking: “What’s the next better choice we can make?”
A Celebration That Gives Back
When couples marry at Swanley Meadows, their wedding becomes part of a bigger story, one where celebrations help plant trees, support wildlife, and care for the countryside setting their memories are made in.
Looking after this land isn’t separate from the business. It’s at the heart of it.
