Love looks good here - LGBTQ+ inclusivity at Swanley Meadows

An honest look at how Swanley Meadows is building a truly inclusive, LGBTQ+-friendly wedding venue - from day-one decisions to ongoing action. Love always belongs here. 🌈

At Swanley Meadows, we believe your wedding should feel like you.

Whether you're saying your vows in sparkly heels or wellies, in a white suit or a rainbow dress, barefoot in the meadow or centre-stage under our tipi lights - love is love, and it’s always welcome here.

As the owner of Swanley, and as a white heterosexual cis-woman, I want to be open about something: I find talking about inclusivity slightly intimidating. But staying silent doesn’t sit right with me.

I’d rather speak up imperfectly than not at all. I’m learning, I’m listening, and I’m committed to continuing to do both. So, if you’re a member of the LGBTQ+ community reading this - I would genuinely love to hear your honest feedback.

When I was first dreaming up Swanley Meadows and exploring how wedding venues were marketed, I couldn’t help but notice how few LGBTQ+ couples were visible in the industry. It felt like a huge gap - and I knew I didn’t want that to be the case here.

That’s why, for our very first styled shoot, I invited a same-sex model couple to join us. It wasn’t a tick-box moment. It was a quiet but deliberate choice - a way of saying “I see you,” right from the start. Not as an afterthought. Not as a one-off.

Swanley Meadows is a venue built on stories, legacy, and love - and that includes all kinds of love. We’re proud to be LGBTQ+ friendly. But more than that, we’re working to be actively inclusive - a space where everyone feels safe, celebrated, and at home.

And if you’ve ever found yourself wondering, "Are we welcome here?" - yes, heartbreakingly, I’ve been asked that - please know, from the bottom of my heart: Yes. Absolutely, yes.

What inclusivity looks like at Swanley Meadows

1. No assumptions, ever
We use inclusive language on our website, in our emails, and in all communication. Whether you're a bride and bride, groom and groom, or neither -our only goal is to support your vision.

2. Trusted inclusive suppliers
We work with a fabulous range of florists, photographers, celebrants and stylists who share our inclusive values. Need help finding someone who gets your vibe? We’re happy to connect you.

3. A day that’s uniquely you
Our tipi weddings are all about freedom and creativity. Want to walk in together? Skip the traditions? Add drag brunches or queer-led rituals? We’re here for it all - no side-eye, no assumptions, no problem.

4. A safe space for every guest
We’re always looking for ways to make every guest feel comfortable, seen, and respected. While we don’t currently have gender-neutral toilets, we’re mindful of signage, facilities, and language that help all guests feel considered - and we’re open to feedback on how we can continue to improve.
It’s something we’re actively thinking about for future improvements as we grow.

5. Visibility without tokenism
We proudly feature real LGBTQ+ couples (with their consent!) across our social media and galleries - not as a gesture, but because their love deserves to be seen and celebrated.

What we’re doing next

We know inclusivity isn’t a badge you wear for Pride Month - it’s a practice. Here’s how we’re continuing to grow:

  • Inclusivity & allyship training for our team and key suppliers
  • Updated signage that reflects inclusive language and accessible navigation
  • A planning guide for LGBTQ+ couples, featuring real love stories, trusted local suppliers and helpful tips tailored to your journey

Final word

Your wedding is one of the most personal, joyful moments of your life - and at Swanley Meadows, we want it to feel like the most natural thing in the world.

So, bring your full self, bring your story, and bring your love - exactly as it is.

We’ll bring the tipi, the fields, the festoon lights, and a space where that love feels right at home.

Love always belongs here. 🌈

With love
